I haven’t been able to figure out how to rename and Area and how to erase it altogether.
Also, is there a way to use the calculator without associating the operation to an Area? For quick math on the go.

You can edit and rename an Area by swiping left on the Area banner (on the Area Screen) and selecting the pencil icon - https://support.reekon.tools/hc/en-us/articles/18866455451028-Creating-or-Modifying-an-Area
The Calculator needs select an area as it populates measurements from that area that can be selected. However, the Project - Space - Area will automatically be populated based on last accessed Area so all you need to select is the save button.
