I have a T1. I don’t use this thing more than once or twice a month and every single time I go to use it the battery is dead. I tried updating firmware and there was no change in this behavior. It clearly has a high parasitic drain when off and it drains down in a couple weeks it of being off. This appears to be a Lithium battery so I don’t understand why this is happening when it is off. I know it isn’t the battery as it does not drain when I remove it from the tape measure. No other device I have drains it’s battery when it is off so this can’t be normal.
I’ve seen this issue raised numerous times and everyone is told to update their firmware. I have done so multiple times with no change. I just upgraded to 6.15 today hoping it will fix the problem.
Same issue. The thing is ALWAYS dead. That beta firmware is supposed to fix the problem, but the current app still shows that the latest firmware is version 0.5.13; it won’t even show me the current version listed on the website, much less the beta. And I have the latest version of the app and my phone has the latest OS, so that’s not the issue. Others have been complaining of this same issue (drain AND firmware) for MONTHS.
I updated firmware, and the vampire drain is improved, but it still definitely goes dead on its own within a month roughly. More often than not when I go to use this thing it’s dead and I have to use a regular tape measure. Yes, I use it infrequently, but that should mean it should last longer between charges. There is no reason for a self discharge like this for a device to function as a tape measure. This is not good. Each time I go to use it, the first thought that enters my mind is wondering if it still has any battery left… which really sucks as it is otherwise a nice tool. There should be a recall on these, a self-discharge of this magnitude is clearly a design flaw. I have lots of lithium powered devices that can go 6+ months easily without needing a charge if unused, so this is not normal. I have a Zigbee wireless devices with tiny 500mah lithium batteries that can go a year or more and they are sending data periodically in the background several times a day - a tape measure does not such background activity.
